What the law asks of you

Households employing domestic workers, nannies, carers and gardeners

National Minimum Wage

Domestic workers are entitled to the full National Minimum Wage: R30.23 per hour from 1 March 2026 (about R5,895 a month for 45 hours a week). We will not list a job below it.

Written particulars / contract

Sectoral Determination 7 (Domestic Worker Sector) and the BCEA require written particulars of employment: duties, hours, pay, leave and notice. We give you a template.

Working hours, overtime and leave

Max 45 ordinary hours a week; overtime at 1.5x; annual leave of 3 weeks; sick leave; family responsibility leave; Sunday and public holiday pay rules apply (BCEA).

UIF

Register with the Unemployment Insurance Fund if the worker works more than 24 hours a month; deduct 1% and contribute 1% every month (uFiling).

COIDA

Domestic workers are covered by COIDA (Mahlangu judgment, 2020; COIDA amendment in force 23 January 2026): register with the Compensation Fund and pay the annual assessment.

Deductions and accommodation

Only lawful deductions; live-in accommodation deductions are limited by Sectoral Determination 7.

Never charge the worker

No fee may be charged to, or deducted from the wages of, a person placed through Molecules (Employment Services Act s15). Never keep a worker's ID or documents.

Privacy

Use the worker's personal information only for the job. Background-check results stay confidential (POPIA).

Work-seekers never pay

Free for work-seekers. You never pay Molecules to register, upload your CV, be verified, get a badge, be matched or be placed in a job. Employers pay us. (Employment Services Act 4 of 2014, section 15.)

Training is optional and separate. Molecules Academy courses can help you earn more, and we look for sponsors, employers and skills-development funding to pay for them, but you never need a course to be listed, matched or placed.
